About this Blog

When I was young, my two favorite walks in the neighborhood were to the mailbox and to the bookmobile. I relished racing up our steep cement driveway to pry open the mailbox half-hidden by Trumpet vines and search for the latest copy of Cricket Magazine. Once a week, I’d walk half a mile down the neighborhood road to the Chapel Hill Public Library bookmobile to exchange an armload of books for as many new ones as I could haul home. The only feeling better than being lost in a good story is the anticipation of starting a new one.

I grew up – perhaps not surprisingly – to find myself CEO here at Cricket Media, where I’m surrounded by colleagues who were similarly captivated by reading since the day they learned their first written words. We are all here for the same reason: to spark this love of reading in others and to engage, enlighten and educate children everywhere. As you know well – especially if you’ve found your way to this site – storytelling works wonders for our creativity, curiosity and confidence. It is also one of the few great joys of childhood that we get to carry into our adult lives.

This blog is dedicated to you and the up and coming readers in your own life. The team here at Cricket Media will be sharing stories and articles from our many magazines that we especially liked – and the reasons why we think they are wonderful to share with the young people in your home and beyond.

We hope you enjoy these posts, and more important, we hope you share your own thoughts in our comments. There’s nothing we like more than to hear from fellow story lovers. It’s what makes our company a community. And as Cricket and Ladybug like to say, “There’s no place like Cricket Country.”
