STEM is our FUTURE, but girls and minority children need our help.

July 2020

The STEM economy is here. STEM jobs are growing faster (42% faster) and pay better (29% better) than non-STEM US sectors. But women and minorities are terribly underrepresented in STEM fields. To close this gender and race gap and better position women and minorities to participate in the new STEM economy, we must act now. To learn more about the STEM opportunity, the gender and minority gap and why we must inspire and encourage girls and minorities to STEM while they are young, please check out the TryEngineering Together infographic.  Feel free to share and download it.

eMentoring: expanding the Reach of Mentorship

Help children Get Excited About STEM Before It's Too Late 80% of all future professions will require STEM expertise. But many children lose interest in STEM before grade 6. To best staff our STEM workforce and ensure our children can fully participate, we must mentor and inspire them in elementary school. To help these children, corporate sponsors and eMentoring teams are needed now. To learn more and see what students, teachers and eMentors are saying about TryEngineering Together, please check out the TryEngineering Together™ infographic.

February 2020

Over the course of the 2019, several of us at Cricket Media had the privilege to serve as working group members on MENTOR’s just published paper on effective best practices for eMentoring. Beyond offering best practices, the report discusses: - Reasons for eMentoring’s growing popularity - Areas where eMentoring offers clear advantages over in-person models - The ability for electronic relationships between mentors and youth to be satisfying, fun and imbued with personality, despite the limitations of communicating digitally. This blog post highlights 9 key excerpts from the report.

Can eMentoring in Elementary School Make a Difference?

January 2020

They’ve given up hope in learning,” Mrs. Jackson told us, describing the 10-year-olds in her Jacksonville, North Carolina class. Many of her students were second language learners, some were homeless, and all were economically disadvantaged. She was seeking a solution that would both educate and motivate her students to see beyond their current world and discover their potential.  She lacked role models and adult volunteers willing to come help in her local community. Mrs. Jackson knew that doing this on her own was nearly an impossible task. Then she discovered eMentoring, offered on the CricketTogether platform, free to schools, which connected her with a classful of eMentors from a business located thousands of miles away. Through eMentoring, Mrs. Jackson was able to give every student their own adult eMentor.
