Privacy Policy for the Story Bug Mobile Application

Last Updated: February 5, 2016

Cricket Media, Inc.’s mobile application powered by Kindoma (hereinafter “Story Bug” or “App”) permits users of the App (each a “User”) to select, access and interact with digital children’s books. It also permits Registered Users (as defined below) to invite people to connect and interact within the App.

This is our privacy policy, developed in accordance with applicable U.S. privacy laws, which governs how we gather and use information from Users. We encourage you to read this privacy policy to understand what we do with the information we collect from you.

By using or accessing the App, you hereby agree to accept the practices described in this privacy policy (the “Policy” or “Privacy Policy”), which Policy incorporates our Terms of Use which you are deemed to have accepted by your use of the App.

What Personal Information we collect:

We need to collect some personally identifiable information from you to set up an account to enable your use in full of the features of the App or to receive paid content. A “Registered User Account” (hereinafter “User Account”) provides access to Story Bug and requires an email address, a password, and year of birth (must be at least 18 at the last day of the previous year to create such account and become a “Registered User”). A Registered User is a representative of his/her household and can link to other Registered Users who are representatives of other households with Story Bug accounts and utilize the App. When a Registered User of the App affirmatively accepts an invitation to link from another Registered User, the two connected Registered Users (“Networked Users”) may initiate, accept and /or engage in video chats with each other. Either Networked User may revoke their acceptance to connect at any time from within the App and delete the connection. For the purpose of clarity, only Networked Users may engage in live video chats and thereby exchange information of their choosing.

Once his/her account is created, the Registered User may elect to take a profile picture and upload it to Story Bug (the profile picture is housed on the servers of Kindoma, which third party entity powers the App), and the Registered User may change or delete such profile picture from time to time at Registered User’s option and control. You should be aware that when you use the App with other individuals (of any age) in your household or with others present during your usage of the App, information and content (for instance, audio, video, and images) that is shared about them may be considered their personal information and is the responsibility of the Registered User to monitor. We treat this information identically to the handling of your personal information.

By creating your User Account and/or using the App, you are consenting to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information about you, your children, and/or other individuals which you have the authority to include in your usage of the App as described in this Policy. If at any time you do not want to be bound by these Policy terms, you must deactivate your User Account– by emailing your request to disable the User Account to and uninstalling the App from your mobile device.

We collect non-personal information about your use of the App and its features. For instance, when reading a book together on the App, we, and our third party service provider powering the App, Kindoma, track the usage of the App, in the aggregate, by tracking interactions with virtual books (e.g. book selection, page turning, and pointing data) but not personally identifiable information pertaining to the User.

Audio and video chat conversations between Networked Users, regardless of whether such conversations include personal or non-personal information, are not recorded nor retained by Cricket Media or by Kindoma.

What if I have Networked Family Members under the age of 13?

You must be at least 18 at the last day of the previous year to create a User Account in the App. Users who decide to use the App with family members under the age of 18 agree to perform all communication with other chosen Networked User[s] through the App on such minor or child’s behalf. We do not intentionally collect, use, or disclose personal information from and about children under the age of 13. Only the Registered User, who must be 18+ to create a User Account, is authorized to designate and connect to other Registered Users, and to create his/her User profile, which may include a picture, and interact with other chosen Networked User[s] through the App. If we have reason to believe that we have collected personal information from a child under the age of 13 (without the necessary parental consent), we will delete the personal information as soon as feasibly possible.

Why we collect Personal Information:

Among other things, we use Personal Information to:

  • Develop new features on the App
  • Optimize functionality of the App
  • Personalize the User’s experience
  • Provide reports of aggregate usage to key partners
  • Send updates about our service/the App by email to the Users
  • Ask for feedback to help make our services better
  • Send information to the Users about products and information that we think will be of interest. The Users can indicate their preference not to receive such promotional emails at any time.

Although we take certain security measures to protect your privacy, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. Please keep in mind that we cannot and do not guarantee that the profile photo that you, as a Registered User, or other Registered Users you have chosen to network with, post in Story Bug will not be viewed by unauthorized persons and that you post such photos at your own risk. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained in the App.

Feedback information:

We may from time to time ask you to provide information on your Story Bug experiences, which will be used to measure and improve quality. You are at no time obliged to provide such information. Cricket Media reserves the right to use anonymized information that does not identify you personally for marketing purposes, for instance by displaying selected comments without a User’s identity on the website or in communications from the Cricket Media team.

Modifications of the Policy:

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time and will notify you by posting any such changes in a revised Policy on the App. Such modifications will become effective on the day they are posted as noted in the Policy. We encourage you to frequently review the Policy for any modifications. Unless stated otherwise, our current Policy applies to all information that we have about you and your account. If we make material changes as to how we use Personal Information collected from Users, we will notify Users by email.
